Silence is golden, Splinter reflects, but far more golden is the serenity that is currently flowing through his home. His tail curls around his legs he sits at peace, his eyes closed but his ears wide open. He knows where each of his children are. He knows they are all safe at home and each working on becoming the ninjas he needs them to be if they are ever to be safe in the above world to which they so desperate want to sojourn, if they are ever to be safe at all without him. He knows he cannot always be with them, though he would like to.
Leonardo is studying, his own eyes closed and his eager mind wide open. Raphael is training as hard as he can with their limited resources, working up quite the sweat from the smell of him. Donatello is laboring in his lab, always trying to invent new things to improve their lives. Michelangelo is in the kitchen, but he's preparing dinner for them all. Splinter hopes it isn't just pizza again, but then he stops, tensing and grimacing. A second later, Mikey's music blasts through the lair. Splinter sighs. So much for quiet . . .
