Vin sighed as he rested his head against the back of Chris' shoulder. Normally he'd be worried that somebody might spot them even way out here, but Nathan and Josiah had assured them they would keep watch while they enjoyed their excursion. He'd question any one else, but nobody was going to sneak up on the Preacher and Nate knew the pain of prejudice-fueled hatred all too well. Besides, Vin was pretty certain their two friends had something going on themselves, although he doubted it was anywhere near the level of what he felt for Chris.

Passion was common, but a love as strong and true as the bond they shared was rare indeed. He wasn't one to judge folks and pushed the thoughts from his mind as he gazed at the sunset. There was no doubt there was a God; His handiwork could be seen in the beauty all around them and in their love. He closed his eyes, thanking the Maker for all with which He had blessed him.

He hated that darkness would soon be covering everything and they'd have to return where they couldn't show their true feelings. So much as a kiss was out of the question in town. Thinking about the lack of their freedom made him tense.

Chris noticed immediately. "Problem?"

Vin shook his head. "Just that we gotta go back soon."

"No, we don't. Buck's keeping watch tonight."

"Really?" he asked in surprise. He'd asked Nathan and Josiah to watch over them this afternoon but knew nothing about Buck helping.

"Yup."

Vin beamed. Then they did have all night. They didn't have to hide again until tomorrow, and tomorrow, as the saying went, was another day. Even then it didn't really matter much, as long as he had Chris by his side.
