Jubilee has always had a sweet tooth and a penchant for landing into trouble. The two have often combined. Some of the first things she ever stole, after all, were candy and gum. If she wanted it, she took it; yet, it's been a while since she lived like that. Logan convinced her long ago to give up stealing because she no longer needed to steal to survive, but he never once had trouble taking what he wanted.
She's a Vampire now. Candy's lost its appeal since she can't keep it down, but there are certain bloods that are just as sweet as the best Rocky Road ice cream, if not better. She licks her lips now as the night wind brings her one such sweet scent. There's nothing better in the world than the one she's smelling after, and she doesn't have to steal her blood. It's given freely to her every night, and Laura's healing factor can take a beating just like the old Wolveroonie's.
Only better, because she doesn't have to take her blood from a vial. Laura enjoys the hunt, the chase, even the pain of Jubilee's fangs puncturing her neck. Jubes sweeps off of the building she'd been perched on, awaiting her girlfriend's arrival. They don't do this at the school, because as usual, with the X-Men when it's something dark, there's too many questions, too many opinions of other people judging what they do.
Some nights, that thought makes Jubilee mad, but not tonight. It doesn't matter tonight. Let them think what they will, even if they catch them out here. She can say it's a prank, that they're just having fun and releasing some steam, but in truth, she's headed after her own little miracle. God doesn't hate her. He can't, no matter what other people might try to tell her, her own included. She' s seen the people God hates, human and mutant. She's suffered because of what other people think He wants. She's lost friends, lovers, her life more times than she cares to count.
So has Laura. Laura thought she had nothing left to live for when they first met, and if Jubilee had ever been honest with the girl, she would have told her that she knew exactly how she felt because she felt the same, exact way. Logan had been struggling to keep her going not just because of her Vampirism but because she didn't want to fight any more, she didn't want to live, she didn't want to try to breathe or even just to exist. And then, in Laura, she had seen a mirror image of herself, and more, so much more.
They'd all been through so very much, far more than anybody had a right to have to endure. They'd all lost. They'd all hurt. They'd all hungered after death. Sleeping peacefully in the ground was no contest compared to having to fight even their own people just to survive. Jubilee was no fool. She knew many of the X-Men she'd once loved and would always think of as dear family no longer loved her but even hated and feared her, just as the humans feared them. It was dumb, and it angered her, most nights, to no end that their own people would let such prejudiced thinking blind them. If it hadn't been for Wolvy and Storm . . .
But she was living, even if she no longer breathed and could no longer eat candy or walk freely in the daylight or even among her own people. She was living, and she was happier than she had been in years. She was certainly freer. The X-Men were going to think what they wanted any way, so she was slowly learning to do as she pleased as long as she didn't get caught. She'd picked Laura up a beautiful ring just the other night, lifting it right out from underneath the shopkeeper's nose, but before she'd been able to give it to her girl, she'd realized that she'd like weaponry far better and had grabbed a dagger from another place instead.
She was still going to give her the ring, though. The timing just wasn't right yet, and they did have the rest of their lives after all. They had the rest of their lives, and, if Jubilee had her way, that meant the rest of eternity. With Laura's healing factor, however, even turning her was nowhere near being an urgent matter. Heck, Wolvy had lived for centuries with his, and there were times when Jubes thought Laura's healing factor might be even stronger.
There were many important matters to discuss, but those could come another night, any night in the long and bright future they were living together. Their future was so bright that they needed to wear shades. She grinned, recalling that old song. If the singers had only known. She giggled, then fell silent as she caught sight of Laura's beautiful, dark head up ahead.
She saw her sniff and knew she knew she was hot on her trail. Laura ducked down an alley, and Jubilee followed. She somersaulted swiftly around the top of the surrounding buildings and came down from the opposite direction from where Laura expected her, one hand closing around her throat and the other finding her left breast. She squeezed both areas as she wrapped her legs around Laura's agile, muscular torso.
Her girl didn't shriek. She very rarely ever screamed for any reason and was as good as Wolverine had ever been at enduring torture, too. But she did take Jubilee by surprise, both by flipping around underneath her and laughing. The sweet sound of her feminine laughter filled the alley way. Jubes squeezed her breast through her black tank top and ran her thumbnail over her jugular. "Sweet thing of mine," she murmured and bit down hard. Oh yeah, she tasted way better than any candy ever had, and she had the rest of their lives to enjoy every bite!
