The day couldn't be more beautiful. The sky is a bright, cloudless blue, and the water beneath their boat sparkles for as far as his red eyes can see. The weather's so perfect that he could swear Stormy's around somewhere, except that she isn't. There's no other X-Men here, or villains for that matter, save two. Only two people on his entire casino boat, himself and his gorgeous wife. "Ah, chere," he whispers, one arm around her and the other dangling his wine goblet, "dis is de life, no?" He kisses her.
Rogue smiles as she watches Gambit pull his pillow closer. It pays, sometimes, to be the one assigned to watch the cameras. She'd never know about his dreams otherwise and how many of them star her. "Not yet, Remy," she whispers but yearns with all her heart to make all their dreams come true. One day she'll be able to. One day she'll be cured, and then she'll love him forever.
What she doesn't understand, of course, is Remy already loves her. He mumbles such into his pillow, but Rogue's already moved on, not daring to hope for real love until she can be the woman he deserves.
