Robin's kiss catches Regina by surprise. His lips touch hers so gently that it's a lighter touch than anything she could imagine. His mouth barely brushes over hers before he starts to lift his head again. He's not moving away. His forehead still touches hers. But somehow, that brief, feather light kiss rivettes her. It's catches her on the spot, fills her with longing and promise, and simultaneously makes her breath almost impossible to breathe, her heartbeat increase speed, and her mind clear.

"What -- ?" she starts to question, her voice barely audible even to her own ears, but Robin silences her with another kiss. This time, he reaches up and cups her face in his strong, reassuring hands. These are hands, she knows, that have had to kill people just as she has chosen to do with her own hands without remorse, but his touch is sweeter and gentler than anything she's ever known. He is sweeter and gentler than anything she's ever known save for her own son, but of course, his gentility stirs an entirely different part of her.

She's never felt this way before, not even all those centuries ago with Daniel. She's never been so easily and willingly held captive. She's never known such power, all in a mere kiss. Perhaps theirs is true love. There is no greater magic after all, and he certainly wields something over her. Yet he wields his power with mercy, never forcing her, rarely arguing with her, always letting her make decisions for her and for them.

He is like no man she's ever known, but then, isn't that something else that dratted green Fairy had said? That the man with the lion tattoo would not only lead to her happy ever after but would teach her things she'd never known, never even imagined, offer a treasure greater than any other, and be unlike anyone else she's ever known? Robin does all that, is like all that, and so much more, so very, very much more.

She feels almost like she's been reborn in his arms. She's actually starting to dare to hope again. She's no longer dreaming of revenge but instead of a future brighter than any other she's dared to hope for since before her first love was so brutally murdered before her young and innocent eyes. She almost snorts at that thought, interrupting their kiss and shattering the moment, but she doesn't. She curtails the instinctive reaction just in time, but she knows she hasn't been innocent in a very, very long time.

Her own mother stole Daniel from her. She'd thought she'd stolen everything from her. She'd thought she'd never have a completely happily ever after again. She'd started to hope with Henry, until Swan had come to town, but even with her child by her side, something had been missing, something she'd told herself she didn't need. She'd convinced herself Graham and the sexual passion between them would be sufficient. His betrayal had hurt her deeply, but it had been because it had finally made her accept the truth: mere sexual passion was not what she wanted.

What she wants is this. She wants him and all the love he's offering, and Regina Mills, not now or then, has ever been known to not take what she wants. Her fingers curl around Robin's collar, snatching him closer. She deepens their kiss, her mouth hardening against his. To her surprise and dismay, he lifts his head from hers. "No, my lady," he whispers and shakes his head slightly. His fingertips brush over her scowling, ruby red lips. "Not like that. You are a lady. You are my Queen. You are my love, and you deserve to be loved."

Her heart roars like a mad beast inside of her when he speaks those words that are so contrary to what everyone else has always taught her. She is a monster. She doesn't deserve love, doesn't deserve kindness, gentleness, sweetness . . . She most certainly does not deserve the man still standing before her, the man who's determinedly stood by her side through all the latest insanity that has engulfed her life. She doesn't deserve her happily ever after, the very, bright future which his mere presence, especially his touch and devotion, are offering her. She doesn't deserve to be happy, let alone to be loved.

"Yes, you do." He breathes the words in a simple but urgent and determined whisper.

She blinks up at him in surprise. "What?!" she demands. "What did you say?!" What kind of trickery is this?! Is he playing her for a fool?! How dare he read her mind; how dare he exploit her most secret desires!

She starts to pull away from him, but Robin catches her hands with the swiftness of the world's greatest thief. His fingers close around her tender flesh, and he deploys just enough strength to try to hold her still. Of course, if she was to unleash her magic upon him, it would be just that: an attempt to stop her. He could not stop her. He can not stop her from doing anything she wants.

The problem with that knowledge, however, is that she does not want to leave him. She does not want to part from his side, not now or ever. She does not want to send him away. She does not want to believe that he's been using her for some other purpose, but if he's reading her mind --

His quiet, deep voice cuts through her refrain. "I'm not reading your mind, Your Majesty."

Barely concealed fury glowers up at him from Regina's darkening eyes. He has but to make her doubt him one more time, and it will all be over for him, and for them.

"I know you, Regina," he speaks softly, "if I may be so bold. I know how much anger and hate you hold for yourself. I know you do not believe you deserve to be loved. But you are, and not just by me. You know your boy loves you very, very much."

"Yes, but -- " She hesitates, her heartbeat faltering. Actually, as she much as she likes to pretend she has power over Henry, that he loves her more than his birth mother, she's no longer convinced that that is true. She hasn't been and has in truth doubted their bond for a very long time now. Suddenly realizing that her mouth is still open, she licks her dried lips and speaks again, "That is, I -- "

"You do not believe yourself worthy."

"No," she admits at last. She'd like to be able to hate him for the power he's got over, that dreaded magic his mouth and body works on hers that makes her able to admit such horrid things, but she can't. She doubts she could ever hate him, no more than she was ever able to learn to hate Daniel, even when she brought him back and he was a danger to everyone, including her and himself.

He releases one hand in a clear sign of trust and strokes her face with that hand. "If there is one thing Marian taught me," he tells her, gazing directly into her eyes and allowing her to see the truth in his as well as feel it in her touch . . . She almost closes her eyes, but she doesn't want to miss a second she could spend looking into his. She knows better than to think that truth can be told in a caress. " . . . it is," he's saying, "that every one deserves to be loved, Evil Queens included."

He also knows that if she had ever truly been loved as she deserves, she would not be so angry and bitter now. She would have let Charming and Snow White go a long time ago rather than wasting so much of your life, power, and energy on trying to destroy their happy ending, she would have been forging her own. He still doesn't quite know how to tell her that, however, so instead he opts for asking, "Why don't we start on your happy ending, Your Majesty?"

Regina's mouth opens again. She's set to tell him that he's only partially right. She doesn't just think she doesn't deserve a happy ending; she knows she doesn't. But when she opens her mouth again, he takes the opportunity, covering her open mouth with his and swooping his tongue deep inside of her. She thrills, as she has secretly since the very first moment they met, at his touch. She leans into his embrace, her breath and heartbeat both quickening now, but somewhere deep in the back part of her mind, she notes that he's still not being rough with her, as Graham always was.

His touch is gentle. It's far more giving than it is demanding. It whispers to her every cell of all the pleasure, happiness, and passion he can bring her while not trying to command a thing in return. He wants to give her, not take from her, and he's the first gentleman to want to do that in so very, very, very long. She melts into his embrace and finally stops arguing.

Inside her mind, though, as she lets her eyes drift closed and allows him to take over the leadership between them, she whispers an actual prayer of thanks. She'll be forever thankful not just to Robin but to whatever force is behind the creation of magic, especially that of True Love. She knows it's not Rumpelstiltskin. He's strong, but he's not the creator of magic, especially of this kind. This is pure, good, all so very, very good . . . Regina trembles and caves, surrendering herself without a word more to Robin, the love growing between them, and all the wonderful things it can finally bring to her in her bright happily ever after that may just be beginning after all.
