"Careful, shugah," Rogue quipped as she saw the salesclerk leaning over her counter. The young girl was both trying to show off her accents and get as close as possible to Rogue's teammate as he admired his new deck.
"What?" She eyed the woman with the white streak. "Is he supposed to be yours or something?"
Rogue glowered. "As a mattah o' fact, sweetie, Ah couldn't beat him off -- " She stopped mid-sentence as Remy selected three cards, raced out of the store, and threw them at the nearest Sentinel. A smile lit her face at the clerk's reaction. "Ah've tried. Many times," she added. "But he is th' type o' man yoah mothah warned you about."
"Good advice." The girl slunk back as far as she could go, until the wall pressed into her back.
Rogue flew out of the store, flaunting her powers and her beauty. For just a moment, she thought of Mystique, but all the things Raven had warned her about were things she actually wanted and had found with the X-Men. Remy was just the best one of them at the moment, but if she'd listened to her mom, she never would've found family, friends, or love.
