It was just a piece of paper, but Piper had had it framed years ago. She'd wanted to put it on display for the world to see that even the Powers That Be had been unable to destroy the grand love she shared with her husband. For a while, she'd had it posted up at P3; then for years after that, she'd kept it on display in their home.
But then Leo had left her for a while, and it had taken so very long for him to finally make her understand his plan. It had taken even longer for her to forgive him and for them to patch up their relationship, and though they'd been together for fifty years after that, somehow, their wedding certificate had never made it back up on the wall.
It was ironic really, just as it was cruel irony that had taken the Angel before the Witch. He'd been the one who had been supposed to live forever. She was supposed to get to go first, then meet back up with him in Heaven, but of course, the Powers That Be had never let them have their way for long. Taking Leo from her had always been Their favorite punishment, but it had never lasted.
Piper felt movement in her bedroom, an orb's telltale shift, and looked up with a beaming smile.
"I waited for you." Leo held out his hands.
She took them and was thrilled when he pulled her into his embrace, as warm and loving as it had ever been. "I came," she assured, kissing him, "as soon as I could." The great-grandchildren would find her with their marriage certificate in her lap, and the world would know nothing had ever been more powerful than their love, not even the Gods.
