"NO SON OF MINE IS GOING TO TAKE IT UP THE REAR -- "
Ryan flinched at the memory. Actually, Dad, he'd yearned to say, Chad is usually the one who takes me up the rear! Of course he'd never been able, and would never be able, to talk back to his father like that. His dad owned the whole city, and he certainly knew it. His children were to be just two more loyal subjects.
Sharpay had always been more loyal than even he himself. He'd been surprised when she'd blasted into their father, telling him that it shouldn't matter who he loved or how he practiced that love as long as he was loved in return. Then she'd grasped his hand and raced with him to their old treehouse, and he'd been crying on her ever since. At least, he thought, his tears finally subsiding, he was loved by two.
