Strands of Phoebe's music play through Cole's head as he fights his Demon down yet again. They want a flag all right, a white flag or surrender, but he's not going to give them one. He's not going to give them anything they want, not a flag or any other sign of surrender, much less his complete and bloody one, which is what all the other Demons in Hell are craving. He may not be worth fighting for, but she is.
He'll never give up. He'll never give in, not to the evil inside of him or the evil all around him. They will have to do far more than just kill him to make him surrender her, or her sisters. If he could have given them one of her sisters without it hurting Phoebe, he would have gladly, but he's since come to understand something he never believed was real about family. Pain to one brings pain to all. Death to either of her sisters would almost kill his cherished Phoebe, just as Prue's death almost did. For his wife to be happy, she has to have her family, and that means he must protect them as well.
Which also means he has to keep doing this. He has to keep moving. He has to keep fighting. He can not surrender. He can not let them catch him, even if it would mean putting an end to his misery, for through him, they can touch, they can hurt, they can possibly even kill his beloved. No, they're not getting his surrender not now or ever not in any way, shape, or form. He's going to keep fighting for all eternity, or at least for the rest of Phoebe's life, not for him, but for her. Always, everything, for her.
