Jenny was fuming as she led Mimi through the tiny, crowded corridors of her beloved ship. Bucky might be the Captain, but this ship was just as much hers, just as much her home, just as much her baby, just as much her territory -- and this other woman, even if she was fighting on the same side as they, was definitely an intruder. Jenny's bushy tail whisked and her ears twitched as she stomped indelicately through the aisles, leading the Starship Captain to quite possibly the last place she wanted to take her.
"It is a tiny little vessel, isn't it?" Mimi reflected. The fox's teeth were sharp, and her eyes were sharper. She knew the First Mate of the Righteous Indignanation was very indignant with her right now, and she knew the exact why. It had nothing to do with sharing the ship, or even her quarters.
"It's perfect for us," Jenny retorted, coming to a stop outside her bedroom door. She hesitated, her hand on the handle. "I expect you to leave everything the way you find it."
"Oh, I will. I will."
Jenny bit back a growl; her ears laid flat against her head. She had her orders, and besides, she knew her beloved Captain's heart was in the right place. Bucky wasn't looking at this woman, no matter what the blasted fox thought. He had eyes for only one, just as she had eyes only for him. She couldn't stop Mimi from thinking what she would or trying to pry his attention away from where it belonged and onto her, but it wouldn't do her any good, especially not any more.
Jenny pushed her door open, walked in, and turned around. As she moved, her green eyes raked over her surroundings, her private items, and those of her husband. "Like I said, leave everything the way you found it. This is a benefit Bucky feels we have to grant you, since, oddly enough, all your crew are men."
The white tip of Mimi's long and bushy tail whisked. She sniffed the air and held her head high and proud as she, too, looked around them. "It's more spacious in here than I would've thought from outside. Plenty of room for both of us." She glanced at Jenny.
"That's because," Jenny responded flatly, "it's a room for two."
"Oh?" Mimi quirked a bushy brow. "I do see there's two pillows, and the bed looks mighty comfortable."
"Make use of it while you must while you're healing, and yes, there's two pillows. Your presence here is depriving my husband of using his own room." She took no small amount of delight in the way Mimi's eyebrows shot up at that and her eyes widened. Of all the ships in all the solar systems, we just had to come across yours when you needed rescuing. But at least she would know, Jenny thought, beginning to gather both her natural, calm attitude and her pride, and once Mimi Foxx knew, all the systems would know.
"Oh? Who's your husband?"
Jenny flashed a wide and brilliant smile. "Why, Bucky, of course. You know we've been courting for years," she continued, smoothly pretending to overlook Mimi's sputtered exclamations.
"But -- But -- But it's strictly forbidden for Captains to court their First Mates!"
"Which is exactly why we had to keep it secret for so long, but there are certain benefits to saving the whole realm as many times as we have. And," she admitted with a sly smile, her ears and tail again twitching, "to being a Princess." Those were two things Mimi would never be able to take from her, she thought confidently, no matter how much more talented or beautiful the woman was, or how high she outranked her. She slid back out the door. "Enjoy your stay, I suppose."
She shut the door behind her and started to make her way back through the aisles to where her husband waited. Jenny, she suddenly heard his voice in her mind, I hope you're playing nice.
Her long, pink tail whisked. Her nose twitched. She could hear every cuss word Mimi was muttering behind her closed door. Of course, dearrrest, she replied, purring the term of endearment. She could practically feel Bucky's laughter through their psilink. Is it my fault, she asked, that she had to find out?
No, he answered, and she was relieved to hear his grin. Not at all. And it is rather nice to no longer have to hide our love, First Mate.
She grinned and floated a little higher off of the metal walkway. Roger that, my Captain. She purred as she floated on her way back to him. So what if Mimi Foxx thought she could have every other man in the galaxies? Let her! As long as no one else had her Bucky, that was all that mattered to Jenny! She was still purring when she reached his side again and was greeted with a prideful kiss on her furry cheek.
"Good kitty," Bucky whispered. "Keep your claws sheathed."
"Meow." Jenny winked and then kissed him. She'd behave; besides, there was no greater retribution she could reap from Mimi than having her know once and for all Bucky was hers and always would be.
