"And they say I work like a dog."
There is no humor in the voice that speaks up from the still bed surrounded by shadows, nor is there any light or hope resounding within it. He sounds so tired, so very weary, that Clark freezes instantly, his heart aching as guilt fills him. His husband is right, of course. He's barely seen him at all this week, but it's also hardly his fault that every damn night somebody has put the entire planet into jeopardy. "Ex -- "
"You're not going."
Before Clark can argue, bars shoot up out of the floor all around him. There's a faint, green glow to them. Clark knows he must not push Lex any further. He has that new material he's discovered keeping the kryptonite at bay for now, but he'll use the damn stuff to keep him exactly where he wants him.
"Come to bed."
"And if I don't?" Clark asks, but he can't help a small grin. Leave it to his love to make a way to use bondage on Superman.
"I'll make you if I must."
"I'm coming." The world will have to wait -- at least for a little longer.
