She just wanted to rest. His wings around her felt so good, so comforting. She laid her head against his shoulder and heard his deep, warm sound she'd always likened to a big cat's purr wrap around her as well. Her teary eyes closed. She just wanted to rest. She just wanted to stay here with him, safe and loved; she knew she could.
All she had to do was say the word. All she had to do was tell him how exhausted she was of the human world. She'd never have to worry about them again. She didn't have to fight to protect the city. She didn't have to fret over the thousands of lives Xanatos was destroying. She didn't have to do anything ever again, just be herself with the man, or, rather, gargoyle she loved.
But then, who would that leave amongst the humans to fight for their own kind? Not a one, Elisa knew. She started to pull away, but to her surprise, Goliath's hold tightened.
"Stay," he commanded. She melted. "Just for tonight."
She nodded. Just for tonight, she promised, she would be nothing more or less than a woman who loved and was loved.
